THERE IS NOTHING QUITE LIKE RANDOM FINDS!

So, I just watched the 1979 Disney movie The Black Hole. Somewhere between 5 and 9 years old, it was one of my favorites. I thought it might be nice to revisit. Sadly, it doesn’t quite hold up.

Today, I received these three awesome additions from Chris.

The first one up top there was an unused advertisement originally meant for Maximum Rock n Roll. Elbohead was sort of a disaster from the get go and any real organized release schedule never existed. After the Four N’ Three is 7″ we had planned a split 7″ with Fracture and Pleasant Greene called Eastern View. I believe Pleasant Greene was a short lived band with Matt Lieberman and Atom Goren, perhaps post Cut-Short. Atom? Can you help?

Clearly, this didn’t happen. The advertisement you see here was poorly drawn by yours truly.

This flyer (I believe) was from our first Fracture/!Franklin US tour however, I really can’t say. It’s a terrible flyer tho and I’m proud to say that no one I know was involved in making it.

This last one is a letter sent to Fracture from Shedder Records asking them to be a part of a compilation they were putting out. I think we all thought that by Fracture being on this comp. they would sky-rocket to punk success (which at the time meant, being on a label other than one we ran ourselves).

Clearly, this didn’t happen either.

  1. Shredder records has – absolutely hands down – the best graphic design of any label ever. Somebody needs to post the cover of this comp cause it was done using MacPaint’s “Brickwall” fill. The form letter is awesome too – musical note banner => Totally Professional

  2. Here’s some info that could help fill in some gaps:

    1. Maximilian was a really jerky robot.

    2. Pleasant Greene was Cut Short after Jeff quit (to join Fracture?) but with Barry Harrison singing. I think we kept the name (it is obvious why, right?) even after Rob Bell quit and we ended up with a guy playing drums, who I only know as Billy Williams’s brother. I really don’t remember what his real name was.

    3. As for the flier – I believe it’s the flier for the awful show we played in Reno, NV on the Franklin/Fracture first tour…. I think the tour diary posted on this site describes what flavor of awful this show was. For the record, the show was awful for reasons independent of Soul Thirst not actually playing.

    4. As for the Shredder compilation, I remember that I sent the DAT to the wrong address (the one on the back of Jawbreaker’s Unfun, which apparently was old) and then I called Mel to ask if we could put on Non-Serviam because I sent the DAT to the wrong place, and we happened to have that DAT lying around. He said it kind of defeated the purpose of the compilation. Somehow it got to him just in time. Jeb would have throttled me. Nowadays, this form of mess up wouldn’t happen. I would have merely emailed it to shredderrecs@aol.com after he changed to gmail.

  3. Revisiting the old pictures and artwork is really interesting and entertaining and all that, but in all seriousness if I see one more version of my old band’s name written in another grotesque-extremed-out cartoon font with shadows and broken exaggerated pieces funneling out of it with some sort of whacked-out wiggle serif and punk-edge-crazy-holy-shit treatment I will tear off my balls and press them into my eyeballs to permanently blind/render myself sexless and dead.

  4. One of my most vivid (i.e. only) memories of the west coast tour was from Reno and it is the Reno dude’s Black Skin-Tight Skull-Print Jean Shorts.

That move gets full caps out of total and absolute respect.
